Medieval Сamp and Decor
Create the perfect medieval camp
Everyone seems to focus on costuming when it comes to preparing for a medieval event. There’s nothing more awkward than showing up to another camp for a feast, being offered a drink, and not even having any medieval drinking glasses to receive it in! Don’t worry, lots of people make this mistake. It isn’t until you are experienced with festivals that you realize that camps are just as important as the armor and the clothing. There are a number of reasons why this is, and a variety of different ways that people can improve upon their camping areas to create a better atmosphere and more immersive event for everyone, and you can find the answers here!
If you don’t even know where to start when it comes to making a list of medieval camping supplies – don’t worry. It can be incredibly overwhelming and ArmStreet is here to help. Start with the basics, such as the place you intend on sleeping. A decent medieval tent is a perfect place to start because it gives you a place to yourself as well as something nice to look at from the outside. A camp filled with period tents instead of modern camping items starts to look excellent before you even start decorating!
Once you have a tent, you can start to think about how you’re going to set it up inside. Remember – this is a medieval camp for adults, and that means storing your clothing correctly, having adequate room and keeping the place tidy. Ensure you have a rack for your clothing (or at least a hook to hang things on), and plenty of chests to store your things in. Ideally, you want to be able to leave the door of your tent open and still have everything looking fantastic for anyone who happens to peek in. You can get creative when devising medieval camping gear, as there are many historical references to take from, as well as plenty of room for you to be inspired by fantasy! A great place to start if you’re not looking at recreating things from history is modern camping gear. Once you know which modern items you need, you can begin to think about how you can alter it to look more medieval. Here are some things you should consider when decorating your tent that both look fantastic and are very useful:
- Lanterns
- Blankets
- Rugs
- Chests
- Tables
- Medieval Camp Furniture
Once you have your tent looking great, it’s time to think about the other basic things that will make your medieval life significantly easier. One of those things is feasting gear! It’s not appropriate to bring modern plates and utensils to a medieval feast, so consider purchasing yourself some medieval dinnerware to help you fit into the setting. The people hosting the feast as well as the other guests around you will surely appreciate the effort you put in. Immersion in a medieval setting can only be achieved if everyone works hard to help, and showing up with appropriate medieval dishes is a great way to show that you care and want to help improve the atmosphere.
