“First Adventure” Children’s Tunic with Contrasting Border
Linen tunic for kids
Our new children’s collection is designed by parents and tested by kids to ensure everything is comfy, looks fantastic, and feels awesome! This is our first collection of clothing for little ones, and instead of just making mini-version of our adult clothing, we have designed and re-patterned everything to make sure it’s the right fit. We love bringing out kids to medieval events with us, so now you can too - and dress the whole family in stylish clothes made from quality materials.
This tunic has no specific historical inspiration and is designed to fit into any generic time period with ease. When creating this tunic, we wanted to make something that wouldn’t limit activity but would also stand the test of time. It has the classic medieval length, coming down to just above the knee when worn with a belt (a tiny bit longer without one), and a relaxed fit to ensure lots of room for adventuring. It has a v-neck at the front which makes it easy to fit your head through, and short, wide sleeves that are similar to a t-shirt with a cut in the side. On the body of the tunic, you'll find a slit at the front and back, which gives lots of room for running, jumping, kneeling and general movement. The most striking aspect of this tunic is the contrasting border around the neckline, sleeves, and bottom, which is available in a ton of different color combinations - or the same color as the rest of the tunic if you’d like. This is a great opportunity to match your children’s outfit to your heraldry or house colors and look amazingly coordinated!
This tunic is made from our all-time favorite material: 100% flax linen. This fabric is all-natural, and though it starts a little bit stiff, after a wash it softens up to an amazing texture that feels wonderful against your skin. This amazing fabric also has the tendency to keep you cool, allowing you to breathe in hot weather as well as insulating you in the cold. We have constructed this piece using all of the sewing mastery at our disposal, meaning it is very well made and perfectly finished. Though all of the edges are originally overlocked, there are absolutely none visible, even on the inside due to our expert seamstresses and their skills. This means that the garment construction is neat, durable and built to last - you might even find yourself dressing their younger sibling in it in years to come.
When purchasing medieval clothing for modern kids, it’s a good idea to speak to them about what it will feel like to wear their new clothing before they try it on. This is because many children are used to stretchy fabrics and zippers, and are not prepared for the fit and feel of natural fabrics such as linen, wool, and cotton. Many children feel that medieval clothing is “uncomfortable” or “too tight” at first simply because it has a different feeling compared to what they’re used to wearing every day. We also recommend discussing a different technique for putting on tunics - it’s best to put their arms in first and then “dive” into the neck hole with their head to ensure their arms don’t get trapped.

Pay attention to one important thing: most kids, especially when it comes to smaller ones, are used to wearing way softer clothing, which is usually made of extremely soft and stretch fabric. So there is a chance your kid won't be happy dealing with medieval clothes limitations and natural fabric early on. As we experimented on our own kids, statistically all of them get used to this after a while – normally when linen gets softer and shapes a tad on the owner's body. But please be very conscious about it in the beginning and make sure your kid is really comfortable with the medieval costume. We tried our best to make this clothing as comfortable and loose and flowing as possible, but natural fabric and ancient patterns have their disadvantages, so the final decision is on you: we can't guarantee that any kid will be comfortable wearing our medieval clothes.
