Woolen mittens are great to complete your winter Viking outfit. This shape is the best as fingers keep warmer when grouped together and smaller surface is exposed to the cold. That’s why people who lived in colder countries began using it centuries ago.

The history of mittens goes back to ancient times. First, they were purely functional items. People wore them when they worked or to protect themselves from the cold. Shepherds, peasants, and soldiers had mittens made of cheap materials to cover their hands. In Scandinavian and Baltic countries, people made their gloves mainly of wool as they had to deal with cold Northern winters. Their everyday activities were mostly outdoor. Vikings built houses and ships, sailed, traded, went hunting and fishing. The weather was not kind to them, and they always sought for ways to feel comfortable under any conditions.
