“Black Prince” plastic gauntlets are probably the pinnacle of recent gauntlet-building in HEMA. They are extremely lightweight, versatile, mobile, and comfortable. This level of mobility comes at a price - and yes, first it’s a price, and second, they will lose a level of protection competition to the “Black Knight” clamshells. It's a rare case when you can buy third-party items at ArmStreet, but they are here for a reason – HF armory produces one of the best gauntlets on the market! Both their clamshells and finger-gauntlets gained the trust of numerous HEMA fencers, including us.
So, if you only do longsword, it might be a questionable choice; they will be perfect for the technique and light sparring, and most high-level test fencers reported that they were OK for the sparring. But they also mentioned they won’t take part in competition wearing those, and this is probably the right decision - the stand-alone finger won’t survive a strong blow even with a decent level of coverage and advanced anatomical shape.
However, saber, side-sword, sword & buckler, and practically any weapon but longsword are where these gloves shine, and the owner feels great. They will fit most rapier hilts, and when they are an overkill for rapier, you’ll feel super-comfortable using them for the off-hand, for example, if your dagger has little or no coverage.

The best solution I have yet found to the paradox presented by sideswords - something small enough to fit inside a knucklebow, dexterous enough to wrap a finger over the crossguard, and still protective enough to tank a shot to the back of the hand without additional protection. I agree with the description given that these are *not* sturdy enough for longsword sparring, but they stand up well to actions from one-handed sword (within reason, of course).
Best medium 5 finger glove there is. It is easy to finger the guard for sidesword and for larger rapiers. Perfect saber glove too. Pricey glove, but well worth it.
