Polish Hussar Gorget and Pauldrons
Stainless neck and shoulder armor
"Hussar" Polish Gorget and Pauldrons
Stainless neck and shoulder armor with brass
Can you imagine the fierce Hussars on the battlefield? Clad in gleaming armor and cutting their enemies down from horseback, some even wearing giant, intimidating wings! We love researching different parts of history, and we were absolutely amazed by the roguish charm and battlefield prowess of these Eastern European cavalry fighters. We have always had a soft spot for Eastern Europe, so we were excited to take on this project and do this fantastic group of people justice!
The most pressing thing on our minds with this collection was practicality. We wanted everything to be flexible, comfortable, and ready to wear. There’s no point in creating beautiful armor if it’s not able to be used in battle. Once we figured out the best possible design, we then looked to the aesthetics and overall feel of the collection. We were aiming for something regal and opulent, yet still classy and reserved.
This listing is for two pieces: the gorget and the matching pauldrons.
The gorget gives you coverage of your neck and collar bones, dipping down at the back as well to protect the most vital portion of your lower neck and upper spine. It is a simple two-piece design, with a hinge on one side and a locking mechanism (consisting of rivets and cut slots) on the other for easy on and off. This gorget is made from 1.5mm steel and is very solid. The edges of the gorget, including the collar, have been decorated with 1mm brass trim, which has been etched in a design similar to Polish engraving. Blackening has been used to make the etching stand out more, and matching brass rivets have been used to attach it all. A single artistic accent is also found in the middle of the gorget, and luxurious scalloped leather lines the top of the stand-up collar.
The shoulder armor design echos the gorget. They are solid in construction, made from 1.5mm stainless steel, and provide you with excellent coverage of your shoulders and upper arms. The top part of the pauldron is a large, solid piece that drapes down over your shoulder in a way that covers your shoulder blade and armpit. Four lames extend to cover your bicep, curving upwards in the final lame to not hinder your movement at all. All of these pieces are connected with leather at the back to give you smooth movement, which is the traditional way of providing this kind of flexibility. 1mm blackening etched brass can be found edging edger lame, as well as most of the top piece. These attach to gorget with a buckle attached to a strap and attach at the bicep with a strap and buckle.
Throughout this set you’ll find fine craftsmanship and great materials. Stainless steel is resistant to rust and won’t require as much maintenance as mild steel, meaning it will stay glorious and shiny on your travels. Cast brass buckles, quality leather, and solid rivets are used to ensure solid construction, and brass rivets are used where necessary to blend in and not disrupt the brass attachments.
