SCA Lamellar Gauntlets
Slavic style etched armor mittens
Simple and beautiful armor piece. Elegant and functional design. The highest level of protection. These, seemingly incompatible, characteristics are simple description of our mitten-style steel gauntlets of the segmented sub-type.
Good for virtually anything – from SCA cut-and-trust and SCA heavy weapon to HEMA/WMA practice or rebated steel combat.
While the design of these metal gauntlets originates from early Slavic and Norman examples, due to its high protection and functionality similar construction was still in use even in XV and XVI centuries. The segmented design even had its' own name “crayfish tail”. Mittens are usually associated with the lesser level of the arm dexterity then finger gauntlets but the protection they are providing is simply unparalleled – when the fist is closed gauntlet's segmented plates are forming solid shell around the fist – and until the segments locked on the hilt or shaft aren't completely collapsed (and this is VERY hard to do) your hand is perfectly protected!
How to choose the SCA gauntlets that are best for you?
ArmStreet has been working with SCA community for more than 20 years. During this time we have developed a huge amount of different designs for SCA, starting from our simple and most popular clamshell SCA gauntlets and following with these fancy etched SCA-oriented gauntlets with etching. Clamshell gauntlets are the best in terms of protection and rigidity, and you can use them with different types of cross-guards and pole arms. For more sophisticated sword fighters, different types of finger gauntlets like our hourglass SCA finger gauntlets or advanced "Kingmaker" gauntlets that are available in both stainless and spring-steel . Overall, the choice between clamshells and finger gauntlets is up to you, our finger gauntlets proved to be very protective, but clamshells are still the most popular choice due to their simplicity and extremely durable design
These gauntlets normally come in stainless steel, but available in mild (cold-rolled) upon request for reenactment maniacs (though stainless is recommended, as etched mild steel maintenance isn't an easy thing).
Regular thickness is 18 ga (1.0 mm). Heavier 16 ga (1.5 mm) is available for $90 extra upon request.
This design is tested and proven in many Eastern European rebated steel melees, so these steel gauntlets are the great choice for both training and battles.

My order arrived today. ahead of schedule, even more than was anticipated. the product looks beautiful and is very comfortable to wear. as light as my old hardened leather pair. Immediately took them out to the pell with a few swords and a spear. They feel fantastic to weld a weapon in hand. my one and only concern is maybe the width on the palm straps. feels like it's pushing the sword out of my hand. simple fix with a little scalloping the edge. won't know until i actually fight in them however just thought i should say something. all in all I love the product! Thank You so Kindly, Quillant Telachevic
A very authentic pair of guantlets 'mitten's' the craftsmanship is outstanding these need to be warn with decent gloves otherwise the rivets dig into your thumb and forefinger other than that there a great product.
Thank you!
