“Morning Star” Linen Gambeson

We have crafted this two-piece gambeson to complement our “Stars” collection of armor made for women. From design through to testing, this gambeson has been made with the female body in mind and patterns to fit you like a glove. We know that you’ll fall in love with this under-armor because nothing feels better than having a piece of padding that actually fits properly and looks amazing!

This gambeson is meant to be worn as a base layer under your armor, to prevent the metal from rubbing against your skin and also giving you some extra shock absorption. We also think that it’s a great option on its own for LARP and other more gentle forms of combat such as training or light sparring.

Our two-piece design was created after so many of our employees noticed a problem with traditional gambesons: when you lift your arms up, the bottom of the gambeson near your hips always rises up as well. By creating separate arm pieces, our intention is to give you a wider range of movement without impacting the amount of coverage the gambeson gives you.

There are two main pieces. The piece with the arms includes the two padded arms, which are attached to a thinner linen crop-top type garment that has lacing up the front. The crop-top is unpadded because it overlaps with the second part, the vest, which is fully padded, has a high collar, opens at the front, and does up with suede straps and buckles for a close fit. The pattern is designed to have a decent amount of overlap underneath the buckles, to ensure there is no easily accessible skin or gaps.

The primary material used for this gambeson is linen, with suede bordering it at the edges to give it contrast and more rigidity. Almost all of the quilting lines, which we usually just leave bare with thread, have actually been additionally embellished with a metallic cord which makes the lines and pattern stand out. This cord is quite durable and happy to be worn underneath armor without worry.
