Basket hilt for HEMA stick fencing
Two-component plastic hand protection
A stick with a plastic basket hilt is one of the simplest ways to start historical fencing. Also, it is an "official" HEMA discipline present in a HEMA ranking and practiced in many clubs all around the globe – a fun way to unite fencers with different backgrounds and an excellent gateway tool for many other weapons, especially for saber.
A plastic basket hilt is the simplest possible option to make a weapon out of a thin rattan stick; a stick with a basket is one of the simplest ways to start historical fencing with minimum gear and a minimum budget.
What did we want to make? We wanted to make a hilt that doesn't look ugly, works well, and has excellent coverage – and we did. We also wanted to make something nicer than the recent designs on the market and something closer to the realistic size of a steel sword basket hilt.
It is made of plastic, comes in two basic sizes, and will work practically forever with a stick. Our plastic doesn't crack. So, whether you're new to the world of swordplay or an experienced fencer, get a couple of plastic basket hilts and several sticks to play with friends in basic gear or to teach new swordsmen. Or to have something for solo drills when traveling or if you can't take your steel sword with you for any other reason. In a word, it makes sense. Also, it might be the easiest way to try our plastic and consider improving your fencing gear kit with our heavy-duty and well-designed protective plastic gear.
