"Ragnvaldur the Traveller" Limited Edition Wool Viking Tunic
Limited edition Viking tunic with soft wool, leather edging, and hand embroidery
The traveller frets not about where they are going and how they are going to get there. Instead, he thinks about the great things he will experience and the tales he will tell. Through the snowy woods, damp swamps and rolling fields, he walks without worry, knowing that wherever he is going, fate has taken him there for a reason. The traveller is dressed for all weather, unbothered by a sudden rainstorm or unseasonable winds. He is always ready for whatever the world throws at him – after all, it’s all a part of his story.
The fabric we have used to craft this tunic is beautiful and soft, keeping the wearer warm and comfortable. It is such a lovely fabric, in fact, that we have only managed to aquire a limited quantity, thus this will be a limited run tunic with only 3 available to our customers worldwide! We have embroidered the tunics with runic numbers from 1-10 to remind you exactly how special this item is, so you’ll never forget the lucky day you managed to score such a fabulous piece of garb that only 9 other people will have! This is especially great for the fashion conscious who don’t like to be caught wearing the same outfit as others. We are calling the color of this wool “graphite grey”, as it is a lovely dark tone with some textured flecks in it. If you’re already starting to fall in love with this tunic, we advise you grab it quickly, as it won’t be around for long.
While we have deviated in the pattern, we did base this item on a historical find from Denmark. Thought to be originally designed in the 11th century, the Krageland tunic provided the wearer with decent movement in the arms, while flaring out at the bottom with a variety of gores. We have created this tunic with the same general idea in mind, but have altered the pattern slightly. The arms still offer you enough room for food fights, fighting practice and adventuring, while we’ve cut the bottom of the tunic widely to replicate gores and give it a lovely swish when you walk. This tunic also includes a slit up the center which make it easy to run in, as well as accommodating those lucky enough to ride a horse! We feel that the cut of this tunic is both comfortable and handsome, flattering to basically any body type when secured with a belt around the waist.
Like many other ancient cultures, Vikings often felt a spiritual connection with their clothing and thus attached sacral importance to their garments. They often decorated their clothing with elaborate embroidery at any opening possible, rarely leaving a hem unfinished or edge untouched. We have edged this tunic with a soft leather, giving it a luxurious touch and our signature ArmStreet attention to detail. This tunic uses a red color that contrasts excellently with the dark grey tunic, adding a burst of color that can’t be ignored and is sure to ward off evil spirits! This runs along the bottom hem, the neckline and the cuffs of the tunic, accompanied by hand-stitched herringbone embroidery with linen thread. The embroidery also run down the shoulder seams of the tunic as well as the center, aesthetically tying the whole thing together and making for an attractive addition to your viking wardrobe.
When it comes to the runes representing the number of your tunic, we’ve looked to Ogham for inspiration. Ogham is an early medieval alphabet used in Ireland, using Gaelic sybmols that can be tied to the early Druidic class. It’s thought to have been used as a secret way to communicate, and looks to be a combination of angled lines inscribed on stone pillars dated from the 2nd to the 6th centuries AD. Our designers put a lot of thought into creating our own unique runic language that takes into account history, divinity, and the lunar calendar, much the basis for the Ogham alphabet. We feel we have created something truly unique and exlusive to remind you how special your limited edition tunic is!
The following table shows how the runic Ogham numbers correspond with the serial numbers. Owning one of these tunics means having a truly unique piece.
