Some have known her to be a fierce warrior, awe-inspiring on the battlefield and terrible to face. Others knew her as a passionate leader, warm and personable, always listening to the needs of her people. She was a person of balance – her ferocity never made her less fair and her kindness was never considered a weakness. She had what it took to be a great leader, and she led us well.

Our new “Gudrun the Wolfdottir” line is a creative refresh of our popular line of Viking items. We have taken some of our most loved pieces and given them additional life with a new story. This collection is feminine, strong, and will make anyone feel like a powerful leader.

This Viking Kaftan is based on historical examples, with some adjustments to make it more flattering. You will notice the nice fitted body and wide, flared bottom half which makes it move in a lovely way. It was a garment that was often worn over top of a tunic and apron dress, providing a little bit of extra protection from the elements. We have made it from wool broadcloth, which has an amazing texture to it and is quite windproof. It is lined in 100% flax linen, which prevents the scratchy wool from rubbing against you as well as providing additional structure to the garment. The edges of the kaftan (including the neck hole, wrists, and other hems) are finished with a red border as well as some subtle embroidery to protect you from evil spirits and give the garment a polished, finished look.

This is a very luxurious kaftan and it is finished with a number of touches that make it a truly quality item. It does up with the help of etched brass claps with a little bit of Viking knotwork. The seams at the top of the arms have embroidery over the top of them to frame your shoulders nicely. The most impressive part, though, is amazing wolf knotwork, which twists its way down from the top of the shoulders to under the bust, expertly adorned with the help of white, blue and red threads. The colors of this garment work together in an extraordinary fashion, making it both modest yet eye-catching at the same time.

All of the embroidery on this piece has been designed here at ArmStreet, and applied to the garment by hand. We guarantee that you won’t be able to find this work anywhere else!
