Etched Bascinet Longface
Stainless klapvisor helmet, late 14th c.
The XIV century brought a new elegance to tournament venues and fields of combat alike. Knights received praise and renown as much for the style of the armour and the cut of their clothing as for their martial prowess – and present day reenactors often find meeting these exacting standards of style extremely hard to achieve.
At ArmStreet we know that our customers go that “extra mile” to look their best and we can do no less for them. To this end we offer a unique Klapvisor Bascinet with a “Longface” visor based on the historic example in the Stibbert Museum in Florence, Italy.
Whether your preferred style of fighting involves foam, rattan, steel or lances this helm, made from solid 2 mm (14 ga) stainless steel and designed to stand up to the rigors of such combat, will do any budding Black Prince proud. You may also read about our SCA-oriented helmets with laser-cut visors
This helm was one of ArmStreet’s “best sellers” at last year’s Pennsic, receiving rave reviews for its period “feel” and look.
This helm comes with an authentically styled padding, SCA-required chin strap, and butted steel aventail. We also offer this helm without the decorative etching.
You picked the 14th century for a reason. You train hard to stand out on the field, shouldn’t your armour stand out as well?

I received my helmet today.I was very worried since the package looked horribly mangled,Opening the package I was impressed with the care that was taken in wrapping the helm for shipping there was no way a ding or dent was getting through all the wrapping. The helm is one of the most well fitting and beautiful helms I own I look forward to getting matching armor in the future.I will highly recommend Armstreet to my friends for high quality beautiful armor! back to ArmStreet!
Thank you for a prompt delivery. Very happy with the purchase.
Thank you!
are there any other leather colors that could be used for the aventail?
Yes, we can make it with black leather upon request.
How do i go about getting this in stainless steel?
This helmet comes in 14 ga (2 mm) stainless steel by default.
Hello Armstreet, I recently posted about whether or not I could substitute the pig faced bascinet for your visored sugarloaf helm in the King's Guard armour set, but I feel, historically speaking, that the bascinet is favourable to an "antique sugarloaf". So, I was wondering if this helm (the longface klapvisor bascinet) can be substituted in the place of the pig faced bascinet in the King's Guard kit, and if the etching on this helm can be done to match the etching in that kit. Also, would it be unfeasable for there to be the engraved brass strips put onto this helm? Thanks, and have a great day!
“The King's Guard” bascinet can be replaced with longface Italian bascinet. Definitely we can make it with brass borders and rivets, but w/o Latin inscriptions, sorry.
Optionally can be made with “The King's Guard” style etching (as shown in the “The King's Guard” pauldrons, cuirass and so on), please email us at contact@armstreet.com for more details.
Hello, I have a few questions about this item. I'm wondering what is this helmet's weight? I'm looking for custom etching to be done in a Norse style pattern such as on your stunning Viking helms. Also I'm curious if my aventail from Ulfberth would be compatible with the helmet and if so, what is required for the installation process. Thanks for your time. Sincerely, Jeff
About 6.5 kg (14.3 lb) with aventail.
Technically this is doable, but such a mixture of styles (Norse/Viking pattern and Italian helmet) will not look good. Viking helmets also have a different shape, so the pattern should be completely remade, so this modification prices will start at $150 extra.
As for the aventail - to answer this question we need a photo, you can send it to contact@armstreet.com.
Hi, I am interested in your Medieval Italian Etched Bascinet Helmet Narrow Face in S or M sized head. How much would a '16 ga' stainless weight in lbs - 1) with visor 2) without visor Thanks, Jeff
About 6.5 kg (14.3 lb) with visor
and 5.7 kg (12.5 lb) without visor approximately.
Hello, I recently purchased your Italian barbute and I love it so does everyone who sees it as well! My question is can I still purchase a bargrill after the fact? I know fitting might be a problem in the latch area but if you make the same size often...I can do a little fitting here as well decided I may need one for some of the summer wars.thank you for your time Mark
Technically this is doable - but as you said, there may be some fitting problems. The visor separately costs around $150.
I have your western style legs, arms and pauldrons and was wondering if you could do the etching on one of these to match. with the vines and flower type etching. and if so, how much extra would it be?
Floral etching costs $100 extra.
Wonderful product, outstanding quality. Excellent communication. Excellent experience!
