Medieval Gambeson “Hedge Knight”
Linen quilted padded armour jacket
Short Medieval Gambeson with Scallops “Hedge Knight”
Linen quilted padded armour jacket
We developed the design of this gambeson based on the cut of our “Layer One” line of sports quilted jackets.
This model has been tested by fencers in Ukraine and repeatedly evaluated by our customers, from whom we received many positive reviews. These gambesons provide maximum freedom of movement thanks to the two-seam sleeve, gusset, and a voluminous, rounded shoulder cut, while maintaining the slim and elegant silhouette of a medieval doublet. To enhance this impression, we added some new details.
We created a new quilting pattern in the shape of an “hourglass,” reminiscent of the quilting found on “jacques” gambesons from the time of the Hundred Years’ War. The quilt lines on the basque transition into graceful semicircular scallops — a characteristic feature of late Medieval and early Renaissance clothing.
The gambeson is fastened in an overlapping manner with neat linen laces and loops. The shoulder and chest yokes are reinforced with an additional layer of cotton batting. The quilted stand-up collar protects the neck from contact with the gorget. A long slit on the forearm allows you to wrap the sleeve under your vambrace. The gambeson also has durable leather pads sewn onto the shoulders and sleeves to serve as arming points.

I just received my gambeson and it is comfortable, well made, and breathes remarkably well. It is exceptionally easy to move in. I look forward to strap some plate onto the arming points and stress testing as soon as possible.
Hi, would this be suitable for Longsword/Messer HEMA? Hunting around for a linen Gambeson, and this would hit the mark if it is.
This gambeson is suitable for Longsword or Messer HEMA practice, particularly for training or light sparring with feders or light steel weapons. For optimal safety and comfort, we recommend pairing it with appropriate forearm, shoulder, and chest protection.
Is it possible to order this with the arming points included, but not sewn in yet? My husband would like to make sure they are placed correctly for his current harness, and we have someone here who can do the sewing.
Yes, it is possible. Just add a comment to your order and let us know that you want the arming poits set included separately.
