14g stainless steel is heavy and strong, and the design is very beautiful And the size fits well, so it's good

Had the helm for a little over a month, went to SCA practices, a tourney, and a short war (Portrero). I really liked the sewn padding, but needs to be closed cell foam inside versus what ever is in there. I backed the padding with 1/4 Closed Cell Foam to get sufficient padding to meet requirements and to be snug fitting. Single chin strap was insufficient to keep helm from being pushed into face, put 1/2 padding on the chin area of the helm to correct. Would probably go with the drawstring and toggle if I bought another one. Spring Lock was hit during practice, took a little doing to get it back in place, but is a nice feature. During the tourney had issues breathing, the cross fleury and helm cover the mouth area. During the war drilled some holes in mouth the area, which improved breathing significantly. Really happy with the helm after modifications. 12 ga is definitely heavy, probably best to stick with 14 ga.

can you get a strap and buckle on the 16 ga. helm? or a mirror polish on the 14ga.?

If your looking to buy a helm and this Sugarloaf catches your eye, BUY IT! It is simply the very best purchase on armor I ever have made. It fits snug, doesnt rattle, and can hold true to some seriously heavy contact. This helm makes you feel invincible! The vision slots are expertly crafted to yield to you an amazing field of view, which is very deceptive to your opponent. Cleaning the brass with brasso makes the brass look like pure gold. I am not yet a knight in the SCA, but because of this helm and my armor I get called "Sir" by mistake and I have to explain I have not yet been knighted yet, because I dont want to take from thise that have earned the title when I have yet to do so. But does make you feel good. This helm is a masterpiece. A true work of art and engineering. I have never seen another person wearing it yet? And I cant understand why? If your 15th to 16th century you need to have one of these! My motto is, "If you want to be a knight, act like one! And looking like a knight doesnt hurt either! Be knightly!" Buy this helm! Yea, the costs cuts a little after first, but you have my word it will take your persona to a new level of awesome!

Just got mine, wonderful craftsmanship! Solid construction, strong rivets, I feel like I could use it to head butt through a brick wall. Excellent work Armstreet!

This helm is amazing for sca combat! It provides you with great vision, doesnt make your head an oversized target, and you just down right look badass! If you arent using one of these you are disrespecting yourself. Buy one youll never want to use any other helm! 5 out of 5 stars!

I just received this helm today and it is AMAZING! Thank you very much for prompt communication and attention to detail. I just have one question, in your experience what is the best way to care for this helm's metal? What do you recommend doing to keep it's luster and overall looking like a monster on the field? Thanks again!

ArmStreet team

Great, many thanks for your feedback, Phil!

Armor made of stainless steel doesn't require any special care. You can clean and polish it with a dry soft cloth and some sort of oil (for example, waste engine oil). Do not polish the surface with the abrasive materials. Water ingress is permissible, but not desirable (do not wipe it with a damp cloth, do not immerse in water, do not wash in the washing machine). After each use, the helmet should be cleaned and wiped dry. Keep it in dry ventilated area, sudden temperature changes must be excluded. Before the long-term storage, make sure that the helm is clean, dry and completely covered with oil.

If this is a general question we may post it on the page to help other customers, otherwise we will just answer you by email

Yes, this helmet with meets all BotN standards
(https://battleofthenations.ua/index.php/unified-international-rules.html)
and SCA heavy fighting standards(https://www.sca.org/officers/marshal/docs/marshal_handbook.pdf).

For the sugarloaf Helm Just curious if extra vertical bars can be put in the eye slots so there are no gaps larger then 3/4 inch?

ArmStreet team

We can make the slot smaller or add the vertical bars, no problem, just mention it in the comments to your order.

Hi sorry for a silly question. I really love the look of this helmet so so much. is there a complete armour set that matches this helmet. if not I also really love the look of the kings guard armour set will it look to much out of place having this helmet with the kings guard set. look forward to your opinion. :)

ArmStreet team

This helmet doesn`t have the matching armor kit. It can look good with the King`s Guard armour set, if the set will be ordered with no etching. To order the set without etching, please just mention it in the comments to your order.

Hi, I'm in a heavy steel fighting group and the requirements say that our helmets must be a minimum of 13 gauge stainless steel (or 12 gauge mild). Is there a way that you could do this? If so, what would the price difference be? Thanks for your time, Laurel

ArmStreet team

2.5 mm mild steel (12 ga) is available for +25% extra. If this works for you, please order via the site and add a comment to your order. We'll send an invoice for the extra charge to your PayPal email.

Rather than a Pin would i be able to get a leather strap on the bottom on the visor to fix it down? and would you be able to add a bargrill as well?

ArmStreet team

Pin can not be replaced with the leather strap, sorry.
SCA bargrill can be made for bascinet type helmets only.
