Mitten-style European gauntlets

If we'd look at the examples of the western medieval steel gauntlets surviving to our time, we would be able to see that mitten-style steel gauntlets were among very popular types for as long as metal gauntlets were in use. There are no co-incidents: while finger gauntlets were offering greater dexterity, mitten-style gauntlets were offering much greater protection, – even against staff - and blunt impact weapon (like mace or morgenstern). That is because, when your fist is closed, mittens are forming a solid shell around it much more structurally sound then separate fingers in the finger gauntlets. Due to the rigidity of the construction, lighter gauge steel provides equal level of protection as the heavier gauges in the gauntlets with articulated fingers.

Historically, the majority of the tournament gauntlets (where safety was primary concern) were mitten-style.

These combat gauntlets are made of 16 ga (1.5 mm) cold-rolled mild steel. Stainless steel version is available for $50 extra upon request.

If you need simple and reliable steel gauntlets for tournament – this item is a great choice. No-nonsense simple and ergonomic shape. Solid rivets are providing extra rigidity – these mitten-style gauntlets are almost as good for a hand protection as basket hilt or “solid fist”, but much more convenient, as you can change your grip to achieve the best effectiveness. They also look good, authentic, fits with most medieval armor suits and don't blow a canon-size hole in your budget.
