“German Rose” Sleeveless Kirtle
Linen Boned Renaissance Corset Dress
Without her, autumn came and trees became austere,
And after that the time grew quickly, year by year by year.
Still, I listen for whispers of that song I could have known,
And look to my garden, gnarled and my flowers overgrown.
I tell myself, as winter comes, if I could just have her here,
She would be my finest rose.
“German Rose” Sleeveless Corset Dress
Linen Boned Renaissance Kirtle
Elegant and simple, we have designed this German medieval dress to showcase your natural beauty and enhance your body in all of the right places. On our bestseller list for years, this lightly boned dress can be found at events all over the world, worn by our customers at LARP, SCA, Renaissance Faires and more. Instead of our usual embellishments, such as ornate trim, we have simply let this excellent pattern speak for itself and allowed the dress to remain relatively plain and natural-looking.
We were inspired by the XVI century when designing this dress, particularly some Woensam pantings. From the end of the XIV-late XV century, dressed became more fitted, and in the XVI century things started to become very fitted, laced, and square necklines became more popular. The lacing in this dress is located at the back, so we imagine it may be worn by a slightly higher class woman who can afford to have someone help her get dressed.
The neckline for this German dress is low and square. The bodice is very fitted and made with plastic boning to give you a little bit of support without being too uncomfortable. The waist on the dress is quite high, meaning the remainder of the skirt drapes down in a beautiful bell shape, making you look tall and lithe. The lacing a the back means that you can get a great fit without complicating the front of the dress with laces and eyelets.
Because of the low neckline, we recommend that you wear it with a chemise. Our German women’s chemise is the perfect combination, as it includes a gorgeous pleated neckline as well as billowy sleeves. This particular kirtle does not contain any sleeves at all, though it does have strings at the top of the straps to tie sleeves if you do have some.
We have used a lovely fabric for this dress - 100% flax linen. Though a dress of this sort would have been traditionally made from wool, we felt that linen was the right choice because it would suit the weather a little bit better. Flax linen is breathable and softens up over time, making it perfect for a dress like this.
Please note that the matching chemise is not included, but is available from our store.
If you would like sleeves with this dress, please look at our “German Rose” Kirtle Corset dress with Sleeves.
