The “Errant Squire” Set of Armour
XV set: gorget, pauldrons, arms and legs
The “Errant Squire” Collection
The perfect XVc starter set for a squire who wants to be a knight
Studious, attentive, and hard working, the Errant Squire aspires to bigger things and grand adventures. Day to day he’s found tending to his knight, polishing his own armor up to mirror shine, practicing his sword drills, tending to the horses and occasionally fighting in tournaments. On his few days off he’ll often hike out of the keep and into the countryside by himself, gazing off into the distance imagining the places he’ll go and the kind of man he might one day be. He may daydream about his epic journeys and future feats, but he also knows his place: next to his knight.
The Errant Squire Collection is a set of basic, reliable and easy to take care of XV century armor. Solid in construction and delightfully durable, this set provides all the benefits of elegant design without the frills such as the decorative etching you’ll find on our other sets. Crafted from 16ga stainless steel, it’s rust resistant and easy to keep shiny. The thick stainless also means that’s it’s ideal for heavy combat and can take quite a beating. Although this is a basic harness, we’ve made it all with the same excellent materials as our fancier collections, as well as our same legendary attention to detail. Because of this, you’ll find sturdy leather, solid rivets throughout and refined details such as cast brass buckles. This set has a historical basis and is designed to look sleek and streamlined while still providing decent coverage.
The “Errant Squire” Set of Armour includes:
The gorget is an excellent basic piece of neck armor. It’s easy to take on and off by yourself with the combination of a hinge on one side and a push button on the other. It includes holes in the side for you to point the pauldrons to, and sits comfortably against your chest.
The pauldrons were the original historical inspiration for this whole set – they're based on a historical pair of “tournament pauldrons” from Milan c. 1460. They include a solid besegew piece that’s directly attached to the rest of the pauldron, which provides great protection of your underarms and chest, especially when combined with our bevor. They pauldrons are constructed with solid rivets, and include a lot of sliding rivets to allow unparalleled flexibility.
The arm harness consists of an enclosed bracer, articulated elbow and rerebrace. Sliding rivets give you extra movement in your wrist, allowing for flawless wrap shots and added flexibility. With this particular model of arm we’ve reinforced the hinges to enhance their durability and keep you on the field and fighting instead of repairing your armor.
We also improved on and reinforced the strength around the hinge on the leg harness. The harness has an attractive central ridge and a sleek profile, giving you decent protection but also shaped to deflect blows and keep you moving. The cuisses and knees are riveted together, and the knee is delightfully articulated to give you a great range of motion when you’re fighting.
If you’re thinking of taking your first step towards being a valiant knight, this is a great place to start. This basic set with serve you well and last much better than mild steel, and it has the added bonus of all matching and fitting together perfectly. Who knows – after years of use you may one day pass this down to your own squire!
If you’re looking for a similar set with a bit more flair, we recommend you check out our "Paladin Collection" – the armor is almost identical in design, but is adorned with etching and other premium details that make it worthy of a knight.
