Medieval Tunic "Prince Gilderoy"
Long Middle Ages Men's Tunic
Medieval Tunic “Prince Gilderoy”
Long cotton XIII century Men's tunic
There is something that every nobleman learns at a young age: the ability to dress yourself for travel. It was something Prince Gilderoy excelled at and perfected, as he understood very well that no self respecting prince should dirty his silks or ruin his velvets to ride a horse. To travel in style one must appear modest, practical and above all else, effortless, if he is to demand respect.
With this tunic we wanted to make something long, that manages to be both dramatic and simple. Intended to be worn as a layer, perhaps under a wool travelling coat, it is still presentable enough to be an over tunic, though it wouldn’t be a complete travesty to cover it up under something more warm. Constructed from ArmStreet’s durable, supple cotton, this is a multi-purpose tunic that will undoubtably go with you on many adventures.
The inspiration for this tunic comes from a variety of historical texts, as it was a relatively common style in the XIII century. It is easy to find in the Maciejowskie Bible (also known as the Crusader, or Morgan Bible), and also makes an appearance in others such as the famous I:33 sword and buckler fighting manual. More often than not, long tunics such as these were worn by people of a more noble status, such as rich merchants or travelling nobility. This is because materials in the middle ages came at a premium, and long garments were significantly more expensive. This is also because the width of weaving looms was much narrower than our modern day looms, which lead to more complicated patterns and many garments being assembled like a puzzle piece.
This tunic is ankle length, with the width flaring out from the waist to give the tunic volume. It swishes as you walk due to riding slits in the front and back, which also imply to any peasants around you that you’re rich enough to own a horse. The silhouette it creates is handsome and respectable, projecting a noble appearance to passersby. Just in case you find yourself in a duel, we made sure the sleeves have gores patterned in, meaning you can swing a sword without fear of your tunic limiting your mobility. Small splits at the bottom of the sleeve make them easy to flip up in case you need to use your hands for anything and don’t want your tunic getting dirty. Finally, the rounded neckline frames your face and neck well and looks great on basically everyone.
As with everything at ArmStreet, this garment has been thoughtfully designed. All seams are professionally finished and all materials are premium quality that you’ll love to wear. The finishing touch on this beautiful tunic is the trim, created in-house by our team of designers. It takes inspiration from the Maciejowski Bible, and is based on shapes and patterns made by weapons, architecture and other art found within. This beautiful trim finishes the bottom hem, the neckline and the sleeves, creating a very polished look for this simple tunic. If you are looking for something a little bit more breathable, we also have a linen option available.

I recently received my tunic in dark blue with the blue trim. I am beyond happy with it. It looks and feels amazing and the large size fit me perfectly at 5'10" tall and 200 lbs. I'll definitely be ordering more from armstreet in the future!
I have one of these in burgundy and the linen version in green and I love them both. They look great for my 13th century Hanseatic League character. I'm 5'10 and 160 lbs. and the medium size is perfect.
Ordered 1 initially, first was Large in Blue and ended up being a little on the large side. Ordered three more in Medium (Dark Blue, Blue, and Green), one fits well, but the other two are tight on the forearms. Would order custom in the future to ensure they are not too tight on the forearms.
Husband LOVES it!!!! 10/10 recommend! He looks so amazing!
This tunic is beautifully finished. Thanks to the Armstreet team
great quality, looks stunning!
Is it possible to get this tunic with custom sizing?
Yes, please select Custom size option over the title of the tunic.
Would it be possible to use the Rowena Red trim with this tunic?
Hi Elliot, yes it is possible to make it with narrow Lady Rowena trim.
I know it’s an uncommon colour, but I was just wondering if it was at all possible to get this in teal.
Dear Odin, unfortunately, we do not have teal color. You may check all linen and cotton colors here.
