“Townswoman” Linen Cap
Medieval women's coif
If you’re looking for basic but beautiful garments to add to your medieval costume, our “Townswoman” collection is perfect! Featuring feminine but understated pieces, it’s full of versatile items to incorporate into your medieval wardrobe.
This coif is inspired by headwear from the 14th and 15th centuries. In medieval times, it was expected that adult women would cover their hair to preserve their modesty, so naturally, they were always looking for new and stylish ways to accessorize their headwear. We’ve made a few adjustments to the historical pattern to make sure it sits nicely on your head, such as a curved seam and drawstrings to affix it better to your head.
To wear this headpiece, the long rectangular panel drapes over your head to frame your face, with the drawstrings used to keep it nice and secure. The triangular bit at the back then goes over the rest of your head, with the ends of the headpiece twisting and tying together to complete the look.
We decided to make this cap from fine linen because it’s a great fabric for undergarments. It’s breathable so it won’t cause you to overheat, and it also does a great job of absorbing oils from your hair. This is the same linen that we use for a lot of our premium underclothes, and has been a favourite textile of our customers for years!

Looks like excellent quality so far. Fits well after following video on how to wear it. Will likely try having someone wear it in a few weekends to the local ren festival.
Fine Quality White 100% Linen Head Covering. Very neatly packaged. Only downside is that with my long hair, tying is complicated, and product doesn't end up looking like picture model advertises.
Great customer service as usual, and beautiful coif :)
A nice linen cap, very practical. It will take me some practice to tie it correctly, but it looks good just tied around a braid or bun. It seems to be good for the hair. It would be cool if there was a tutorial on how to tie it properly.
really well made, quality materials. Great value for the money. Praying for your safety and victory.
Excellent quality! Thank you for your wonderful sewing:)
I ordered a towns woman coif right before the war began in the Ukraine. I received an email from Arm street to explain why it wouldn't be coming soon. I did not know Arm street was a Ukrainian based company. They requested I not cancel my order. I was happy to comply with the request. Several months later, I received more emails about the company finding safety and reopening their work. I was very happy for them. I received my cap about 4 weeks ago. I am very pleased with the quality, material, and honesty I was granted about the transaction. I really like the coif, but I do wish it came with directions on how to put it on. I think I have it right, but not quite sure. I have recommended this company to all of my troupe for Renfaires. I make most of my own garb, so I know the care that goes into quality work of this kind. Thank you so much for providing me with this lovely cap regardless of the turmoil . And I pray for the Ukraine and all of your safety.
It is perfect! It came quickly and is exactly as pictured. It's well-made and comfortable.
Beautifully made and love it!
I like the cap, but at present can't seem to make it very secure. Work in progress, I guess. Still glad I bought it.
I love this cap.. I actually use it for gardening - it keeps my hair off my face, provides shade, protects my hair from too much sun, and feels very light and cool.. Lovely and very practical..
