Cotton Chemise “Townswoman”
Underdress with loose sleeves
Cotton Chemise “Townswoman”
Batiste undergarment with loose sleeves
Our “Townswoman” Collection includes feminine, simple medieval clothing, and accessories that are versatile and easy to work into any costume. With some of it loosely inspired by the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries, it all fits very well into the “generic” medieval category and can be dressed up and down to suit a ton of different looks. This chemise is meant to go with our short sleeve “Townswoman” dress but would look great with any of our ArmStreet dresses.
A chemise is a vital part of any costume. Not only does it add another layer that makes your costume look better, but it also serves the function of absorbing sweat and protecting your outer clothes. This particular chemise is long, features a scooped neckline and wide sleeves. It is bell-shaped and voluminous with lots of wonderful fabric, which is gathered along the neckline to help the fabric flow nicely. The sleeves are gathered at the wrist with a drawstring.
This chemise is made from a fine cotton batiste, which is thin and soft which makes it a lovely fabric to have against your skin. It’s an ideal base layer and drapes very well which makes the gathering around the neckline look wonderful. The dress has been crafted by our talented seamstresses who have decades of experience, so you’ll find well-finished seams and tidy tailoring throughout the garment.
There is no particular historical inspiration for this chemise, but it would look great with basically any medieval dress.

This is the chemise you want. it is comfortable, well made, easy to care for, looks good on. plus the sleeves are just so much fun. This is a gold standard in chemise.
Gorgeous garment; lovely, crisp and densely woven, fine cotton fabric that will wear and wash beautifully. Perfect sewing and excellent service. Highly recommended.
A great fit. High-quality material and top workmanship. I am very satisfied
This is my first Armstreet chemise, purchased with the Townswoman dress. Very well made, and I appreciate the finishing touch on the collar seam. The fabric is so light and soft, and the style is so feminine. As soon as I tried it on I had the urge to frolic barefoot in a moonlit garden. (Which is an extremely cheesy description, but true) Can I wear this to bed? Because I would sleep like a princess.
Hello, good afternoon. I need to buy an XtraLarge dress but in the measurements blanks I don’t know what to put for an Xtra large. I hope you could support me in this please. It turns out it is for a pregnant woman. Thank you so much.
Hello, please simply fill in all the measurements required for this chemise and we will make it in custom size for you.
THE MOST WONDERFUL CLOTHES IN THE WORLD!! NEVER STOP MAKING THEM...AND PLEASE NEVER GIVE UP!! SO WORTH IT AND SATISFYING. BEEN WAITING ALL MY LIFE FOR THESE KINDS OF GARMENTS...EVEN FROM A LITTLE GIRL...I USED TO CALL IT "CASTLE-WARE" ETC....HAD THE VISION OF THIS WHEN YOUNGER.
The chemise is beautiful and comfortable. Excellent craftsmanship. Very nice fabric. All perfect!:)
Lovely, feminine, wearable piece of history. The tie elbows are so sweet. Why is it again, we don't dress like this now? With the over dress this is perfect, for dancing, for Viking outings, for just being me. I love it. I could get used to wearing this all the time!
It took a while with the post being what it is but it was well worth the wait. I will definitely order more in the very near future. I have been looking for this kind of nightgown most of my life, so I am greatly excited that I have finally found one
Lovely, simple, and made so well. I am very happy with all the items I've purchased from this company.
Hello, Oh Brilliant Designers :) Are there any plans to make a sleeveless chemise? I'm not sure if that would be historically accurate.. but it would sure be nice for us who wear these as night dresses & around the house... ;)
Hello, yes we are actually releasing a new sleeves chemise soon! Stay tuned :)
Would it be possible to shorten this chemise to a shirt style?
We would like to offer you a similar chemise in short version here.
I recently ordered this chemise to wear with the Townswoman dress, and I’m considering ordering more dresses eventually. Can this chemise be worn under the Archeress dress as well?
Hello Kacie, yes of course, you my wear it with Archeress dress.
My measurements are just in-between sizes 0-2 (upper end) and 4-6 (lower end), but I also have broader shoulders and am 163cm tall (short). Would you recommend that I pick 0-2, or 4-6?
We recommend custom size option in this case so we could make the chemise according to your personal measurements.
Would this chemise work with the Lost Princess or Princess in Exile Dress?
Hello Julie, the sleeves are too puffy for the Lost Princess dress, unfortunately.
