Woolen Kaftan “Ingrid”
Women's viking coat, warm natural wool
Old Norse was mostly a land of a cold wind and a long winter, so woolen clothing was an important part of Vikings' everyday life and a main winter time outfit.
This simple and elegant coat is made of absolutely stunning wool which looks and feels like a completely handmade, with natural color and rough structure.
Despite the very simple pattern it elegantly emphasizes a waist line and a silhouette of the wearer. It has widely open neck which suppose that a fur shawl or a woolen hood will be used to protect your neck from the coldness and wind.
Coat is decorated with a simple flat color border and a trim with traditional ornament. Two handmade brass clasps make the whole outfit even more authentic and beautiful.
Original ancient pattern has been slightly improved to provide better sleeves and shoulders fit. Big sizes also have breast tucks for better fit.

Grazie , il cappotto e' bellissimo , e sono stati davvero velocissimi
This is quite a robust coat! It feels so nice, and it well worth the price. It goes great with the rest of the viking set, otherwise you can just wear it as is, and it works as a perfectly warm coat. The clasps are very neat, and quite robust as well - you can tell they cast them themselves (meaning they aren't made of some chintzy thin metal). You could totally get away with wearing this as an interesting modern coat. It is lined with linen, so it isn't quite so itchy since it is made of wool. It is more of a coarse-hairy wool than a soft wool (if that makes sense). The cut of the coat is very nice, slim at the waist, and then flares out. I took the advice of the other reviewers and added some extra room to my arm measurements, and it turned out perfectly.
Gorgeous piece, made of high quality materials; I agree with the others, I had it made to size and the sleeves are a little snug. Fits amazing with light layers or sleeveless tunics and chemises/slips; I recommend this to anyone interested in purchasing it!
This coat is comfy and warm, I wear it all the time!
This coat is gorgeous. I agree with the other reviewer that the sleeves are rather snug, so I recommend increasing your bicep measurement if you want more ease. I live in a warmer climate, so I can wear this over light layers and be fine. The hooks didn’t stay together well initially, but a slight squeeze with pliers fixed that problem. On the whole, I’m very pleased with my purchase.
I purchased this coat and am very happy with it. Had it made to size, and must admit the sleeves might be a little tight, but not so tight it's going to be a problem. It's heavier than I expected, but fits really well over the shoulders and the weight isn't noticable when it's worn. I would definitively recommend it, but if you are wearing several layers of wool during winter for reenactment/living history/larp purposes, you might want to request bigger sleeves.
The coat is top quality, absolutely wonderful. With the measurements I gave them, the coat enthals me perfectly. I hope I have many opportunities to put on the full costume.
This coat is gorgeous - very warm, with a flattering fit and nice flare around the skirt. The braid matches the Ingrid tunic and dress and brings it all together, making it also possible to wear that outfit at winter events. I don't like getting clothes I can only wear for cosplay and historical re-enactment, so was happy to find that, while gorgeous with the rest of the Ingrid ensemble, it also works well as an exciting everyday coat over modern clothes, and seems to get a lot of compliments. Warm enough to wear out carol singing in the British weather, and it'll certainly be in my bag for the summer festivals as it's warm enough for late nights. Beautifully made and fitted. If you ever make a detachable hood in matching wool to go with this coat I will ebe the first in line. Thank you!
I love my item! Excellent quality and wonderful customer service! I highly recommend!
Lovely well-made coat!
Is it possible to get the wider Ingrid trim on the jacket?
Dear Charlotte, this coat can be made with narrow trim only, unfortunately.
Is this the same length as the Embroidery coat?
Hi Melissa! Yes, the length is the same. The patterns are similar.
Is it possible to get this kaftan with 2 clasps (the embroidered kaftan has this)? And how much extra would this cost?
Hi Lotte! Yes, of course. Please contact our support team for the price.
Is it possible to buy this without the trim, like the embroidered version is made? I'd want to add my own trim and embroidery if I bought this.
Yes, please just mention it in the comment to your order.
Hello. If I did this as a custom order, would it cost any extra to get the wool in a different colour?
The coat cannot be made in any different colour, as we don`t have this fabric in other colours, sorry.
Words cannot describe how excited I am about this and the other editions to the "Ingrid the Hearthkeeper" line. With autumn approaching here, both the hood and the kaftan will be perfect. First on my list to purchase once my tax rebate comes through! :D
